Inclusive Marketing: More Than A Trend & Running a WP agency for US nonprofits
This month we welcome Joyann Boyce talking about Inclusive Marketing: More Than A Trend, It’s A Movement and Lesley Molecke taking us through Running a virtual WP agency for US nonprofits.
1. Inclusive Marketing: More Than A Trend, It’s A Movement
– Joyann Boyce
Skill Level: Beginner
In this talk, Joy will highlight how your team can avoid using token diversity in campaigns and teach you how to create authentic personas which truly reflect your brand’s audience. The aim will be to provide a light insight for individuals who are unaware of the concept but want to be part of the change.
Joyann Boyce (aka Joy) is a social media consultant and founder of The Social Detail. She works with SMEs, with a focus on technology companies to maximise their impact through social media. The Social Detail has worked with a range of organisations such as Bristol City Council, Black Girl Convention, SETsquared and Future Space; and is an avid advocate for diversity and inclusion partnering on projects with TechSPARK such as SHIFT to create diverse stock photography.
2. Changing the World One WordPress Site at a Time: Running a virtual WP agency for U.S. nonprofits
– Lesley Molecke
Skill Level: Beginner
Have you ever wanted to run your own agency? Ever looked around your office and thought, “I could do this better than these guys!”? Ever yearned for more influence and flexibility in your day job? Lesley is going to show us how she and her friends started their own WordPress development shop, carved out a niche, and built a successful 16-person firm with clients like Greenpeace, the Endangered Species Coalition and Global Zero.
Lesley is co-founder of Cornershop Creative, a small American WordPress development firm that focuses on helping nonprofits, progressive candidates, and small businesses make the most of the web.
She’s been working on the web since she was in high school and ran her own small web design shop before she could drive. She lives in Exeter, where her husband teaches at Exeter Uni.
🍴 We provide a free healthy buffet, that appeals to those with a wide range of dietary requirements (veggie, vegan, gluten-free and lactose free) thanks to our generous sponsors, 34SP.com and Atomic Smash.
🍻 There is a well-stocked and licensed bar at the venue, so please feel free to buy a drink to enjoy at our event. If you would like water, think of the environment 🌍 and bring a bottle 🙂
Located in the heart of Bristol, just on the edge of Bristol Bridge, our venue Runway East is easy to get to.
🚂 From Bristol Temple Meads it is a 10 minute (flat!) walk
🚘 For those in the car, there are pay and display spaces right outside the venue on Redcliff Street at a cost of around £3 for the evening. Alternatively there is an NCP on Queen Charlotte Street (five minute walk) costing a fixed £4.50 for the evening (5pm – 2am).
🚲 If you’re on a bike, there are plenty of bike stands just across the road on the other side of Victoria Street.
⌚Please arrive from 6.30pm. You will be greeted by our friendly and knowledgeable volunteers who will give you your name badge and get settled in. Talks start around 7pm so there’s plenty of time to meet our other members.
Before the talks, we usually do a few updates about what’s happening in the local and national WordPress community and members are welcome to add their own updates.
After the first talk we take a break and then have our second talk. Following that if you want to stick around for more chat you are welcome to. The talks usually finish around 9.15pm (ish) and we aim to leave by 9.45pm (ish).
*If you find you can no longer make this meeting please do change your RSVP. As we provide food for these events it is helpful for us to know what number to cater for and of course to ensure that the waitlist is kept as short as possible. Thanks.
