Let’s talk about page builders

A night themed around page builders – we are stoked to have two fantastic speakers joining us! Anna O’Brien will share how she uses page builders to create great looking websites and Andrew Palmer will share why he thinks page builders are a useful tool even if you are a confident coder and how he uses them. We look forward to seeing you.

1. How I design websites without knowing how to code

A relative newbie to the wonderful world of WordPress (read massive impostor syndrome), Anna will be chatting about how she found a way to design websites without any coding knowledge but how this allows her to focus on styling, visitor engagement and UX.

This talk will cover a few topics such as:

• Being a jack of all trades (and hopefully a master of a few)
• Coding envy
• Using builder plugins
• Designing responsively

Skill level: Beginner

About Anna O’Brien

Anna had the bright idea to become a website designer and subsequently taught herself as much as possible about web design along the way. Coming from a creative background, she is particularly interested in how the design makes the visitor feel, how easily they can engage with the website and the kind of experience it gives them.

2. Why use a page builder when you know how to code?

Andrew will talk about the benefits of using a page builder to get a design that your clients will be happy with in the shortest possible time. Integrating it with his favourite SEO plugin and a tiny teeny bit about layoutscloud and elegant marketplace and how they have helped thousands of noobs and very advanced designers and developers build sites quickly and cost effectively using both Elementor and Divi layouts, child themes and plugins from across the world.

I will show live examples of complex and not so complex sites built using a particular page builder called Divi.

*If you find you can no longer make this meeting please do change your RSVP. As we provide food for these events it is helpful for us to know what number to cater for and of course to ensure that the waitlist is kept as short as possible. Thanks.

Please arrive from 6.30pm. You will be greeted by our friendly and knowledgable volunteers who will help you get your name badge and get settled in. We aim to start the talks at around 7pm so there’s plenty of time to meet our other members, get a drink and have a graze from the buffet we provide thanks to our generous sponsors.

We usually start the night off with some updates about what’s happening in the local and national WordPress community and members are welcome to add their own updates. Speak to one of the organisers wearing a red name badge before we start if you’d like to say or ask something.

After the first talk we take a break and then have our second talk. Following that if you want to stick around a few of us usually hang around for another drink and chat. The talks usually finish around 9.15pm (ish).

We will be upstairs in the function room, here is a handy video showing you how to get there: https://www.instagram.com/p/BGy9lM_wC_w/
